My Inspiration

My hand-knitted artworks are created to honor womanhood, female force, and feminine energy. I want to release the circular force and let the feminine take its place and take up space, as powerful symbols of fertility, as well as gentle manifestations of feminine essence. And I want women to throw shame and old inhibiting beliefs overboard, and see the female body, the vulva and the blood as a symbol of life force. Let us value the wisdom of the cycle and let the feminine energy flow and radiate, as it is meant to.

Beyond the female body and feminine energy, I'm inspired by nature — corals, sea anemones, flowers, lichen, moss. Growths, folds, layers that together create a kind of landscape, or an expression of softness where the eye and mind can rest.

 The Materials I Use

The knitted reliefs are created from recycled textiles combined with varied yarns. In the meeting between the rustic recycled fabric and the finer, at times shimmering yarn, the works' distinctive texture and tactility emerge. Many of the textiles are bedding, women's clothing, and tablecloths, which are given new life through artistic processing. The colors blend as I knit with multiple textiles and yarns simultaneously.

Self-developed knitting techniques

To achieve the relief effect in the artworks, I have developed knitting techniques that make it possible to create organic shapes as the work progresses, and the pieces are often knitted "in one go" without prior sketches. The process is intuitive and begins with an expression or an energy I want to manifest and convey. From there, the choices are made along the way — the colors and shapes almost find their own path, and the work grows between my hands, stitch by stitch.
